Quickie: Earth vs. Moon?

Screenwriters/producers Paul Wenick and Rhett Reese have a new project they're working on called "Earth vs. Moon." FirstShowing is reporting that Wenick and Reese got the concept from Stephen Hawking’s TED speech that talks about the "necessity to colonize other worlds and set up a backup society which could avoid the natural biological and human created dangers of Earth." Hmmm... that sounds really cool.

The duo actually wanted to make a video game at first, but when they pitched it as a movie to Universal, Universal dug it. Wernick describes the movie as being a “hardcore, 300-style movie with some comic relief to it, but about the Earth and a colony on the moon essentially in a civil war.” The story is set in the future. The scale will apparently be so large, that “it’s either going to be made at a grand scale for $200 million or not at all.” Even though it will be on such a massive scale, they say it will center around a single family to show the emotion that would be involved in such an ordeal.

The team is hoping to get Will Smith to star. Sounds like another awesome summer blockbuster for the Fresh Prince!
